I like to take annual trips for work as well as try to get away with my husband. Sometimes the trip gets combined with both. Back in Aug/Sept I had booked a week long workshop in Washington (Wenatchee National Park) ... guilt set in. The mom guilt of being away from my kiddos for over a week once you factor in travel and such. The costs as well crept up super fast. I figured my hubby and I needed this time together more then my business did at this point. (don't worry, I booked a different workshop for June 2018.. excited for that)

So I canned the Washington workshop and started planning a lil get away for my hubby and I. Naturally a week away in January you think palms and ocean... but the funds didn't allow for that. So I started to look more local.. one of our fav places to go is the west coast. We've talked about visiting Tofino one day... this was my chance to go see this place I've heard about for years. So christmas morning, I planned a scavenger hunt. It ended with two fake tickets with westjet and the destination just said surpise. I told him to take a week off work and pack a bag. I was able to keep it a secret until the pilot announced it leaving calgary. But still come Victoria he didn't know where we were headed. This was so much fun for me.

We flew into Vic, stayed a night with my sister that ferried over from Van. Then rented a car and ventured on our 4 hour trek to Tofino. We had NO timeline, NO deadlines, just open road, some coffee and good tunes.

I broke our week up into 3 nights spent in the cute lil A-frame cabins at The Shoreline Tofino

complete with ocean front views and a soaker tub. I highly recommend this for a romantic get away.

then 3 nights at a beautiful Airbnb called The Ray of Sunshine

I booked this one for our obsession for modern architecture. (Our future dream home basically)

We spent a whole week playing crib, enjoying wine, food and silence. We hit up hikes everyday and soaked in all the mother nature we possibly could. A quiet week just the two of us. it was needed. We did however spend one night with one of my beautiful wedding couples this past year, Bry & Adam. They were on their honeymoon. WE had such a fun night together and are excited for a rematch in crib. it's on.

be sure to take time with your "first love". It's hard when the kids roll into the scene to stay connected over top the goldfish, lego, activites and hotwheels. The hustle bustle of life can really drown a person at times and is sure refreshing to step away from it all. It can be as simple as a quiet night on the deck (summer of course) once the kids are in bed. Leave the phones inside and just enjoy the stars together.

SO take a little or a lot of time and reconnect with your partner. You'll be glad you did.

xo, joc
