The Eternal Struggle Of The Modern Dame

The Eternal Struggle Of The Modern Dame

It is the eternal struggle that every modern Dame faces every morning " Do I really have to wash my hair this morning ?", or "Nah, this can totally go another day!". Luckily, there are so many new products on the market to help us meet this struggle head on ladies!  Move over diamonds, dry shampoo is the new girls best friend!

I have a confession to make. My name is Kassy and I'm a product-aholic. Being a hairstylist, I'm constantly checking out new hair products and formulations. I'm lucky to work in a swanky salon that carries equally swanky hair products that are sure to solve ANY hair dilemma out there! I also always keep my eyes and ears open for the newest and most innovative formulations for hair products being introduced within my industry! Hence the insane hoard of products which you can find in my dressing room, in my closet, in my car and under my sink.

Today I've rounded up my most favourite dry shampoo formulas and I'm going to try to take the guess work out of choosing the right dry shampoo for you! Aerosols, powders, mousses and pastes... you name it I've got it!

What: First up , Aveda's Shampure Dry Shampoo.

How: This powder product is fairly simple to use once you get the hang of it. You simply turn the container upside down, which fills the cap with product. Turn it right side up, point it at your roots and squeeze the sides of the bottle. A puff of product will come out and evenly distribute over your roots. Put the product wherever you need it, mostly around your hairline and through the crown of your head where we typically feel the oiliest! I always advise to let the powder sit for a couple minutes to let it absorb some oil and then brush it through to keep it from building up on the scalp.

Who: I am lucky enough to get to work with Aveda products every day and I think this particular dry shampoo is great for any hair type! The only caution I would give is to dark brunettes( like myself). The powder is white and can show in your hair if you're not careful! It's great for blondes though and I have a ton of clients who swear by it!

You can find this at Capelli Salon Studio or any other salon carrying Aveda for $39.00

What: R and Co Dry Shampoo Paste

How: R and Co is a product line that I've just started using fairly recently! This product is definitely, hands down my favourite in their line! It's a soft paste , which is a fairly new concept in the world of dry shampoo. All you need to do is take a small amount out of the jar, rub between your finger tips and rub into your roots where you're feeling oily. Voila!

Who: This paste is part dry shampoo, part styling paste and is great for any hair type. It not only absorbs oil like a champ, it leaves the hair with tons of volume and a little hold. It's great for second day hair when you want to freshen your locks and add some volume! Prepare to be obsessed!

You can also find this at Capelli Salon Studio in Saskatoon or any salon near you that carries R and Co! It's $34

What: Next up we have the most luxurious product in today's lineup. Oribe's Gold Lust Dry Shampoo.

How: This aerosol spray is applied in a typical fashion. Give the can a shake and spray 8-10 inches away from the scalp. If I had to pick a favourite dry shampoo of all time, this would be it! This product is applied like a traditional dry shampoo but it is ANYTHING but typical! I find most aerosol sprays may absorb oil but leave my hair feeling dry and gritty after and leaves my scalp feeling tight. This spray actually leaves my hair feeling clean! No gritty texture, just fresh hair that smells divine!  Oribe is definitely an investment but worth every penny in my opinion! Treat yo' self!

Who: this product is for any hair colour or hair type. If you crave fresh, light, clean feeling second day hair, this is for you! The only downside is, it doesn't provide a lot of volume, so if you're looking for that you may need to layer it with a texturizing spray!

As with the others, you can find this at Capelli or any salon that carries Oribe. It'll run you $56

What: Last on my list for today is the Dry Shampoo Foam by Ouai Haircare

How: This product line was developed by Jen Atkin, one of the hardest working A-List celebrity stylists in the game. Every "It girl" and fashionista is following her right now, check out her IG and you'll see why! This product is one of the most unique andinnovative on the market in my opinion. It comes in a mousse like texture. Shake the can, spray a palm full into your hand and apply onto scalp. The trick with this is it's going to make your hair feel wet! Don't freak out! After applying to your roots and scalp use your fingers to massage it in ( like you're shampooing your hair) until it feels dry and absorbed. The results leave your hair feeling clean like you just washed it and gives your hair bounce and shine! This product is quickly developing a cult like following for a reason! On a personal note, this is the product I have in my go-bag to keep my hair fresh in the hospital after our little girl makes her appearance soon!

The Ouai products can be found at Sephora and this foam will cost you $35

There you have it ladies! These are my top picks to keep your hair fresh and still allow you to hit the snooze button a few more times in the morning! And when in doubt, thank God top knots are still cool!

A special thanks to the lovely Karyn Kimberley for the amazing photos!
