INSPIRED BY INDIGO

A look at how denim is influencing interior design & fashion, and our full on love for this classic material!

Denim is a staple in most wardrobes offering looks that translate from workwear to high-fashion and beyond. From the 17th century to now, denim is not only iconic in fashion but has been used for furniture & upholstery and found in museums, attics, antique stores and even archaeological digs. Give it up for denim it is arguably the most epic fabric of all time.

Why denim? The cotton based classic is extremely versatile is natural, organic, and totally approachable. Dress it up, dress it down, dye-it, distress it, bejewel it, the possibilities are endless. All denim starts with a white and an indigo thread, creating the foundation for this ever evolving materials.

Denim for your personal style...

Denim is the true style shapeshifter than can transform your look from casual and understated to an office setting, or a fabulous night on the town! The versatile nature of the fabric allows for different colors and treatments to suit your own personal style.

For our latest Metric Design Centre team photo shoot we expressed our own style with a "denim and diamonds" theme stepping up your average office attire layering different fabrics and textures with denim for a cool, approachable look that still speaks to our creative industry. Scroll through the shots to see the team show their own personal style with denim...

Denim for your home...

As fashion and home design influences go hand in hand we have to expect that the cool, classic look of denim would make its way into Interior Design. Designers like Ralph Lauren have been showcasing the material for decades in both fashion and home design.  The material can be used in small doses as an accent like a throw pillow or placement or create a stand-out feature with a sofa or chair!

We gathered some inspiration from Houzz and Pinterest to show how you can carry the look into your own home...

Do you have a large open space? Try the indigo tones as a division of space with a natural textured area rug. The rug anchors the space and creates cozy conversation areas. A denim bench was added for extra seating, but could easily be used on both sides of the space.
