Moms, Meet Fitbump

When I heard the buzz around a new, locally owned, fitness studio for new and expectant mothers, I was excited and eager to check it out! I contacted the owner, Amanda, to find out more about her new business venture and try out a class. 

When I walked in, I was greeted by this smiling face.  Meet Amanda Brindley, the creator and director of Fitbump.  Amanda has an athletic background and is a former Rugby player. She is also a new mom to her daughter Molly.  This is where the idea of a fitness studio designed for moms and moms to be grew from.

When Amanda was expecting her little one, she was looking for a way to continue to stay active while pregnant, while also connecting with other moms.  She was unable to find the right fit for her in Saskatoon, so decided to develop her own fitness studio! And so, Fitbump came to be.

The studio is located at 105-701 Cynthia Street in the airport business area.  Easily accessible from Circle Drive. There is a large fitness studio area when you walk in, connected to a comfortable lounging and play area, kitchen, and restroom. 

Fitbump also carries a variety of athletic maternity clothes, including nursing sports bras, supportive yoga pants and leggings, fitness tops, and hoodies.  Amanda did her research and found tried and true brands, some of which are Canadian made.

There are a variety of classes offered at Fitbump, including Mom & Baby, Mom & Tot, Bootcamp (open to anyone!), Walking & Running group, and prenatal class- which I checked out.  You can read more about what each class has to offer here.

Classes are currently offered Monday-Thursday, mostly in the morning and evening.  Amanda teaches all the classes herself.  She is also going to be adding weekend outdoor walking and running groups to members of Fitbump. Stay tuned for those once the weather warms up! Find the full schedule here.


Amanda understands that the schedules of new and expectant mothers can be unpredictable, so she offers flexible options for attending classes.  Members are allowed to make up classes at another time if they are unable to make it. Classes are offered in 6 week sessions, with the option of attending 1 or 2 classes per week.  Drop in classes are also available.  Prices vary based on class; find the full price list here.

The prenatal class I attended was open to women in all stages of pregnancy, even those late in the third trimester, like me :) The class focused on light cardio, strength, and flexibility.  Many options were provided to modify exercises for different abilities within the class.  The vibe was very laid back, relaxed, and welcoming.  I felt completely comfortable and was not intimidated at all. 

The biggest thing that stood out about the class to me was the focus on getting to know one another.  Amanda made time in the class for us all to introduce ourselves and share a bit about our pregnancy.  This was done while continuing working out or stretching.  We were given the chance to connect with other moms to be who were going through the same journey.

Each class is different than the next, to keep things fresh and interesting. Some classes focus more on cardio or aerobic work outs, while others are more strength based.  Most classes include some aspect of partner exercise, which also allows for more opportunity to connect with other new moms.  Each 6 week session will also be different than the last.

After attending the prenatal class at Fitbump, I felt tired (in a good way) and happy to have met so many moms to be.  I was slightly sore the next day but it was bearable.  I would definitely recommend checking out Fitbump, whether you are expecting or already a mom. I can't wait to return with my newborn and try out the Mom & Baby classes.
