Guys… this ones for you. (Ladies you can anonymously forward this to your boyfriends)
Dreaming up ways to propose to your girlfriend can be a bit… Exciting? Maybe stressful? Mind boggling? Scary, but good? Im trying to pretend to be a guy here…so bare with me. Nonetheless proposing to the women of your dreams can be something you want to be memorable and it would be nice to shock the heck of her... am I right??
I was approached by a fellow a few years ago and he wanted to propose to his girlfriend…but he wasn't sure how he wanted to do it… but he wanted the whole process photographed candidly. My mind went racing immediately with excitement! Im like… dude, brownie points for you for even contacting a photographer because chicks LOVE photos.
So… we conjured up an idea that he would take her out for a fancy dinner downtown. (hence then she would be at least dressed up knowing you're going out for a fancy dinner date) Then we had the idea that they would go for a walk along the river after supper. Now this is where I'll (sorta) hide out in the bushes because like in our city, its nothing to see a photographer out with a camera.
I had met with the "groom to be" ahead of time to plan out where they would walk, where he would potentially propose etc etc. It was great to map out some sort of plan and I think it eased some nerves for him. …. but really in this case whatever happens happens… and I'll be there to capture it. That's the best part about shooting candidly.
When the day arrived the weather thankfully cooperated and the plan was by around 7:00 they would be walking down towards the fountain by the river bank. This is where I would be hanging/hiding out… with my big long lens, acting natural. lol
I'll let the photos speak for themselves. It was a tingling moment that I'll never forget and I was SO blessed to be part of it. (yes I cried) lol
Since then I've been able to capture a few proposal sessions and its been SUCH an honour.
Here's another proposal conjured up with myself and the "groom to be"…. This one set up at the gorgeous Boffins location. We met ahead of time to scope out a plan of action which involved the two going for an afternoon of "skating"… to which I was there hiding out with my big long lens. Again I would be as discreet as I could …but funny enough I ended up running into a friend there, so I was pretending to photograph "her"…when I was really shooting them. lol
The day was perfect and the light was great. I came ahead of time to place a chair with candles and a warm blanket at the "proposal spot" we decided on. I'll let these photos speak for themselves again. :-)
Insert tingles and butterflies.
He decided to blindfold her at the last minute and it sure added to the excitement of this engagement.
I think I've been spotted. The cat is out of the bag….lol and I near in closer.
