Coffee Break? Tasty treats that wont break those New Years resolutions

As most people do, January is a month for personal change, setting goals, and making resolutions. A popular resolution is it devote more time to your personal health and wellbeing. It's important to set goals that are attainable and make lifestyle changes that excite you - and that you can keep longer than a week or two. I know I've been guilty of this way too many times. 

Making small changes in your eating habits is a great start to making big changes in your life.

When I'm not working or editing photos for hours on end, one of my favourite hobbies is cooking - and creating alternative recipes to some of my favourite dishes and treats. There are endless ways to transform your favourite meals into a healthier version, without sacrificing the taste you love! 

Today I wanted to share a few of my go to drinks, treats, and meals.



Coffee -  who can go without it?! I love Starbucks as much as every other 20-somethings girl, but I've come across a coffee drink that I can make at home every morning (saving me $5.50), and I actually love so much more.

While visiting Venice Beach, CA, last fall, every 2nd shop was a quaint, but fashionable coffee shop. Many with a focus on fair trade coffee, vegan friendly drinks, and GF treats. I'd heard of "Buttery Brew" or "Bullet Proof Coffee" before (A blend of coffee and butter to promote a healthy fat intake), but when I came across a Coconut Oil Brew, I had to try it, and I was hooked!

Benefits of Coconut Oil Coffee - Increased energy, boosts metabolism, boosts immune system

Here is my at home recipe for my Vegan Coconut "Latte"

To make one cup (I use XL mugs!)

  • 2 cups of brewed coffee (I use an Aero Press - if you haven't tried one... do it)
  • 1 tbsp virgin coconut oil
  • 1/2 tbsp raw organic honey (for a vegan option use agave syrup)
  • sprinkle of cinnamon 

Blend for about 15 seconds in the Magic Bullet (This is a must, you can't just stir!) and you'll have a frothy, dairy free, better then Starbucks delicious drink to get your morning going.




If you have a juicer at home, it's so easy to use the produce you have in the fridge to create filling, nutrition dense, and delicious drinks to get your day going and sustain healthy energy.There are endless combinations of fruits & vegetables you can create juices with at home, but this is my go to favourite!




(This recipe creates about a 2 litre jug, enough for a few mornings of juice on hand in the fridge.)

  • 2 Large Cucumbers
  • 2 Granny Smith Apples
  • 1 Lemon
  • 2 Heads of Romaine
  • 5-6 cups of Spinach
  • 4 Inches of Fresh Ginger (use as much or little as you like. I love the spicy kick it adds, so I use alot)






If you're a busy mom, gym go-er, working women and need healthy on-hand snacks to go along with your coffee & green juice, Raw Energy Bite are honestly the easiest thing to make and grab-and-go! And they are freaking delicious.

These energy bites are packed full of healthy fats, healthy sugars, and vitamins, giving you a sweet treat and a little boost to get you going.


  • 1-2 cups medjool dates
  • 3 tbsp natural raw PB
  • 1/2 chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup chopped almonds
  • 1/2 cup chopped cashews
  • 1 cup unsweetened dried cranberries
  • 1/2 cup sunflower seeds, 
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened coconut flakes
  • 3/4 cup hemp hearts
  • 1/2 cup raw oats
  • 1/4 cup chia seeds

(All raw, unsalted, organic)
Blend dates & PB in food processor, and mix in any ingredients you like. Roll into balls, pop in freezer, and wa-la! Yum!





KAY. If you've never tried a Chick Pea cookie... you're missing out. Sounds weird, I know, but they are deliciously disguised in these sweet and doughy cookie balls. Even my 4 year old loves them

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

  • 1 can chickpeas, rinse and dry with paper towel
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup + 2 tbsp natural raw peanut or almond butter
  • 1/4 cup raw honey (for a vegan option use agave syrup)
  • 1 tsp baking power
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup vegan chocolate chips
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder

Bake for 10 minutes and enjoy warm!
