Hi.

Welcome to our blog. We're twelve girls documenting our adventures in #yxe. Hope you have a nice stay!

and so... the adventure begins

We recently celebrated my son's third birthday with a 'Camp In' themed party.  Since he's a winter babe and we can't throw a simple party in the yard, we decided to bring the outdoors in.  You may say, "Really? But he's only three!"  My response is this.  We celebrated this way because we could this year. I wasn't able to celebrate my son's first birthday with much of anything.  I was fighting a chronic illness and there were days we weren't sure I'd see his second.  His second birthday was low key, fun and wonderful, and this year... we had a blast... so much that he asked the next day when he could have another party.  My Mom would always throw the greatest parties for my brother and I growing up, so this just seemed natural.  As fun as this party was, I'm pretty sure a bash like this won't occur every year and even more certain that he won't want me planning themed parties at all in a few years.  So, for now, I enjoyed every minute of it.

Planning the party became a family affair.  Everything was homemade and my Mom knocked our socks clean off with her amazing three tiered cake and adorable bacon and egg cookies - she just never disappoints.  The best part?  Noah really got into helping - he'd pull up his stool in the kitchen and it always ended in laughter and covered in chocolate - a beautiful memory in itself.  We weren't just celebrating that he was another year older, but rather all that he's accomplished in his first three years and all that he will in his future.  We were celebrating the love of our family and friends with our family and friends. And we were celebrating because life just needs a good party and this little guy is one incredible reason to do so!

So, whether you choose to celebrate you child's birthday with a walk and a picnic, a special story and snuggle, movie out or birthday cake for breakfast, be sure to stop and really celebrate them... the special little souls that they are.  The one with the greatest belly laughter to fill your home.  The one whose eyes twinkle extra bright when they talk about their favourite things.  The one who gives the best cuddles and love.  Ever.  Celebrate them and those moments because they'll grow faster than you can ever imagine.

Enjoy a pictorial of his celebration...

I discovered Greenmunch online and adore their products and service.  They're a Canadian business that sells the greatest eco-friendly products from compostable and wooden dinnerware to adorable washi tape and bakers twine.  Check out their site for sustainable entertaining with style.  I also purchased hotdog sleeves, mason jar lids (with straw hole) and paper baggies for the party (you can see them further down in the gallery).  All amazing products and they deliver in just a few quick days!

Although I didn't photograph the grub, we had a hot dog bar with all the toppings, corn on the cob, vegan chili and kettle corn.

Our favourite event that the children took part in was a donut eating contest!  We strung bakers twine through donuts and hung from a branch.
