When Our Collective Muse was asked to be part of decorating the Dress For Success Ensemble Fashion Show by creating an entrance display with a flight theme for Thursday night's event at Kreos Aviation, we jumped at the chance. Ensemble was an evening filled with amazing designers, local shops and catered food by some of Saskatoon's top chefs, and the effort that went into this spectacular fundraiser was apparent everywhere you looked. From the top-notch production Saskatoon Fashion & Design Festival brought to the table, to the gorgeous models who were coached and coordinated by Masala Model & Talent, to the many businesses that contributed to the production including the title sponsor, Cameco, it was an honour for us OCM ladies to join the team. Together, we created a night filled with fashion, food and flair.
First, let's start with a little background of the important charity that Ensemble benefits: Dress for Success. Their mission is to promote the independence of economically disadvantaged women by providing work-appropriate attire, as well as to offer a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.
Dress for Success has suited more than 775,000 women worldwide since their inception in 1997. Dress for Success has affiliate locations in more than 124 cities across the United States, Australia, Canada, Ireland, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, the United Kingdom and the West Indies.
And now back to the entrance display we created! One might think its crazy to make over 600 paper airplanes… but really when we plugged through it, it was SO much fun. SFDF's Jacqueline Conway and Mandy Pravda pitched the idea of using paper airplanes in some way and when OCM member Maygen Kardash hatched the brilliant idea of a mobile, well... I'll just let the photos speak for themselves.
Inspired by photos of paper crane mobiles, Maygen came up with how to hang the paper airplanes one by one and string them from PVC pipe (that she graciously made between feedings & diaper changes). Props go to her dad for picking up the supplies we needed, to OCM gal Karyn Kimberley for painting some of the planes in gold spray paint, and to all that helped out folding, cutting, taping etc., etc.: Desiree, Kelsi, Lisa H, Lisa L, Jocelyn, Tammy, Erin! This was a HUGE group effort.
It was intense. (but fun)
Time to get this event underway!
Our very own OCM gal… Susan Busse ROCKING the runway.
Wow.. she is a stunner!
Our attempt at a group shot….. I give it an E for effort lol ;-) Nonetheless… It was such an amazing night.
I had a blast taking photos and being part of this event… Much love!
