Since winter won't seem to leave, I decided to (only temporarily, of course)! I'm off to California for part vacay/part business trip and am so excited! It will be a much needed break. Before travelling, I usually begin the process of packing many days in advance. I am far from a light packer and need the extra time to plan outfits, remove things I probably won't need, and weigh (and re-weigh) my suitcase to ensure it's under 50lbs. Here's a peak into a few of my must-have travel essentials.
Start with a good quality bag. I got this overnight bag, by Canadian brand Herschel Supply Co., from Banjo Outpost. It is the perfect size for a carry-on. I love the neutral cognac color, with rose gold zipper accents. It also comes with a longer shoulder strap.
You're obviously going to need some sunglasses. I actually got these ones last time I was in California. I'm loving the tortoise with gold hardware. I like having some shades with me on the plane, especially if I'm trying to catch some Zzz's and the sun is shining through the window. Eye masks wreck your eyelashes ;)
Early flight? This Publish brand denim snap-back hat is a life-saver for messy bed-head. Plus, keeping it with you in your carry-on, should prevent it from getting crushed in your checked bag. Cute beaded bracelets bring the beach vibes and won't set off the security scanner at the airport ;)
If you have any 'can't live without' beauty products, it's best to have them safe and sound on board with you. I was sure to pack my Colorescience Unforgettable Mineral Sunscreen from Midwest Laser Centre. Not only does this product protect me from the harmful sun rays on the plane and as soon as I touch down in Cali, I also use the the soft powder-dispensing brush to keep my skin matte and shine in-check while traveling. If I am wearing make-up, which, let's be honest- I usually am, this sunscreen brush is my favourite way to apply sunscreen over my makeup. It keeps everything in place and protects my skin.
If I have room, I like to bring my favourite XL Pendleton beach towel. It's big enough for two, soft, and fun. You could also use it as a blanket on the plane! I love to read and usually make it through at least one book during a getaway. I am currently reading Thin, Rich, Pretty by Beth Harbison, which I got for Christmas.
When in humid climates, I like to give my hair a break from styling and wear it au naturale. My hair is naturally wavy and this Paul Mitchell Extra-Body Sculpting Foam from Salon Vibe, helps give my hair some volume and beachy waves. I apply it to wet hair and let it air dry.
As you may already know, I am a product junky. Traveling is hard for me, as I find it difficult to narrow down my collection. Here are a few of my must-have travel-sized products:
I recently began using a new (to me) skincare line called Biophora, from Midwest Laser. I have dry and sensitive skin and this company has a whole line of products designed just for skin like mine. The products work together to calm and eventually normalize the skin. So far I am loving the results and have had only positive changes. My skin is less red and I have not had any breakouts or blemishes for quite some time (knock on wood). I especially love the Gentle AHA cream which gives me just the right amount of exfoliation without any irritation. On top of that, they also make a travel sized product pack which is perfect for heavy packers like myself. It includes the calming cleanser, toner, AHA cream, derma rich moisturizer, SPF 45, and night cream.
Downy Wrinkle Releaser is a life-saver for getting the creases out of your tightly packed clothes, when you don't have time or access to an iron. Just spray and pull to smooth out the wrinkles.
Marc Jacobs Daisy rollerball perfume is the perfect scent to freshen up during and after a long day of delays and layovers.
I can't forget the Aloe Vera gel, mostly for my husband, who usually 'forgets' (refuses?) to apply sunscreen.
