Welcome to our blog. We're ten girls documenting our adventures in #yxe. Hope you have a nice stay!

A show with purpose.

So I just wanted to take this time to post about an upcoming project that I'm part of. A few years back a dear friend of mine, that you'll meet below, asked if I would cover an event that she had in the works. I of course said yes before even knowing what it was about as anything that Chan does, is done well and with love.

Months of planning went by and many texts and emails later the event came and I was blown away with the turnout and support. My favourite part, next to being neighbours with my swank girls and elizabeth.lyn jewelry was all the beautiful people I got to see. Old faces and new I was having a ball visiting with everyone. The room was full of proud entrenpenures representing their best. Such a great energy.

So here I am, second year and we have so many more surprises and fun in store for you. I am not certain I'll be having a booth this year, as with the wee one still needing moms full attention. Such a change from last years show where I was hiding when I could, to hover the porcelain goddess due to this very wee one being 6 weeks along that weekend. I'll be in MUCH better spirits this year. So be sure to scope me out and come say hi! I can't wait to meet you!

How did the Modern Woman Show get Started?

Essentially it started because I was dealing with a failed marriage and I needed to find a positive outlet to concentrate on.  I wanted to help others reach their potential and in essence it helped me to grow as a person. With my job at Midwest Laser I travelled to many tradeshows and I really wanted something in Saskatoon that my friends and family would be excited to attend.  A tradeshow that wasn't just about all the things that I loved (fashion, make-up, health, etc) but an event that inspired and recognized women in our community. I walked into Prairieland Park in September 2012 and asked to talk to the rentals manager...I told her I wanted to create a tradeshow for women. And this brings us to today.

What keeps you inspired?

Taking what could have been such a dark place in my life and knowing that I can change any outcome keeps me going. I get inspired by anyone that has taken a dream and really went for it.  We have so many amazing people doing such unreal things in this city. I am continually in awe of everything that people achieve. Watching all the vendors put their trust in me has been such a humbling experience. It is important for me to always grow and learn. I never want to stay stagnant and that is true for what I want out of this event.

What is next for Modern Woman?

That is a good question... my goal for the event has always been to create a great opportunity for women-based businesses to showcase their products and knowledge. 98% of the companies involved in the Modern Woman Show & Expo are run by women.  I hope to encourage students, mothers, and professionals -inspiring them to take a dream and make it happen. The event gives back to the YWCA Saskatoon and my goal would be to be able to donate more funding for their programs.  The YWCA is a very important organization to our community, I may have had the family and friends to support me when I needed it but not everyone does.
