A few months ago, we posted a contest to win a 'feature' post on our blog. Thank you to everyone who entered! We thoroughly enjoyed reading each and every one of your entries. Although it was tough, we collectively chose a winner! Kristina Hughes won us over with her humour and passion for theatre.
Desiree and I had the pleasure of meeting with Kristina at her workplace- Persephone Theatre. We sat down and got to know her a little better...
Kristina first realized her passion for theatre in high school, where she found a tight knit and supportive group of friends within the theatre club. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree, with the intention of teaching; however, when she began teaching in schools, it just wasn't the right fit for her. Luckily, Kristina soon realized her true calling was performing and working in theatre. She has been teaching theatre at Persephone for the past three years. Here, she is able to teach with the flexibility and independence she was missing in the education system.
Kristina is also on the board of directors of Live Five Independent Theatre, which is a unique group that curates seasons of independent theatre in Saskatoon. Kristina explained the concept of Live Five. Simply put, they provide a great amount of opportunity for theatre production in Saskatoon. Live Five also provides a close and connected theatre community in the city. Upcoming productions include Two Corpses Go Dancing and Willow Road.
A few of Kristina's favourite things...

- Movie: Stage Beauty
