Can we talk about how fun it can be to layer for fall? Usually people drag their feet and reluctantly run into the store (Tonic) with frost bitten fingers to buy gloves or a hat. But, this fall has been so incredibly warm that we find women taking scarfs and piles of sweaters into the change rooms and yearning for the frosty nights when they can wear their layers.
When our weather changes throughout the day we really do need to layer, and unless you have a car nearby to cart half your closet along for the day because of inconsistent weather patterns you need to build your layering wardrobe. Start with a basic dress or tunic, tights and leggings are great if its really cold, but not always necessary. Next is a cardigan. kimono or thin jacket over the dress that is easy to remove if the afternoon is warmer ( or the fire warms you up like it did for us). Next for super cold weather is a coat, then scarf, and don't forget a hat.
Fall in the prairies is really the best time to shop, we know that the seasons will change and we need to update our wardrobe, this fall the kimono trend is one of our favourites, it's that perfect piece for afternoon walks when the sun takes the chill out of the air. Don't forget to wear your favourite necklace underneath all of your layers, this "Y-necklace" is from Coutukitch the most adorable Calgarian couple, who custom make everything themselves, it's available online on farminista.com well as in Tonic.
Oh - don't forget to have fun, we always recommend fun accessories like these vintage oversized sunglasses. Try adding some contrasting colours to your layering day, pairing this mustard blouse with a navy and red plaid poncho really brings a vintage, or eclectic vibe to any look. Happy shopping!
Thanks to Boehmer Photography and the Tonic girls for such a fun S'more's party.
