Last week I traveled to Vancouver with fellow makeup artist Amanda Zinovich of A to Z Makeup Artistry to The International Makeup Artist Trade Show(IMATS). Makeup pros from the film, fashion, and retail business were there to educate and demonstrate their skills while showing us some pretty fabulous products. They were also there to answer any of our questions. I picked up more than a trick or two from these pros! I'm just going to apologize for the Iphone pics now. One does not have enough room to carry a professional camera, the shopping bags were heavy enough.
Upon entering the trade show I needed to use the washroom. Amanda decided she just could not wait. I was gone less than five minutes and when I got back she had already purchased 17 brushes(no joke!). It was then I realized that my credit card was about to do some serious damage. They had just about every thing you could think of. Makeup Forever's lines was already a block deep. Makeup giants such as Kryolan, Hakuhodo, and Ben Nye were all there to show off the best in makeup and brushes. Now I needed to think about what do I really need here? Need??? More like WANT, WANT, WANT! IMATS had all the little kit essentials than unfortunately aren't readily available in Saskatchewan . I purchased a lot of simple and pratical things such as organizers, brush cleansers, and mascara wands on the first day and on second day I of got a lot of stuff I didn't really need. But I don't really know the difference between a need and a want.. Next picture haul day one!
The place was full of the industries best talent including Emmy award winning makeup artist Kevin James Bennett. Here he demonstates fall makeup trends.
Here is Chloe Sens demonstrating a very cool bog witch makeup. You may remember her from when she competed in the widely popular television show Face Off.
One of my favourite presenters was keynote speaker Joanna Schlip. She has worked on countless celebrities and fashion magazines covers. Here she demonstrates carpet ready makeup.
Very talented makeup artists from the Vancouver Makeup Effects school demonstrate this beautiful creature.
Some pretty amazing sculpting skills going on here.
Saving one of best for last was keynote speaker Ayami Nishimura. Here she demostrates beyond makeup , a celestial being. She has worked for Vogue, Harper's Bazzar, designers Missone, Acne, and Marni. Just to name a few.
IMATS isn't only for professionals. If you just love makeup than you are welcome! It takes place in Canada in Vancouver and Toronto once a year but with an outdoor stage like this Vancouver just may have the edge… I will be back!
