Don't forget to check out the 2nd Ave Sidewalk Sale! Thursday, Friday & Saturday! Lots of deal and lots of people to see!
The 2nd Ave sidewalk sale is a staple of Saskatoon's festive summer season and one of the busiest retail weekends of the year. The sale draws in thousands into our vibrant downtown and provides the backdrop for three says of fun in the heart of the city.
If you need shoes... and you like them on sale... this is your place. My little guy and I walked around for a few hours today checking out the deals and totally enjoyed the ambiance and all the amazing food trucks. If you're looking for something to do this Friday night everything is open till 9:00 pm and open Friday & Saturday 9:30-5:30!
Make sure you check it out!
The plan was to go to Vegas. Not because I like Vegas all that much, mind you, but it's a quick trip and well, my husband Tyler wooed me on it by reminding me of Britney Spears' ongoing residency. But when Brit Brit's show schedule failed to line up with our planned travel dates, I threw a new idea out there: what about skipping the plane ride all together and instead opt for a staycation? The idea of staying in Saskatoon was appealing, what with our world-class restos, gorgeous boutique hotel, promising weather ahead, and close proximity to our baby. Not surprisingly, it was being near to our 16-month-old that really sealed the deal (we are still happy co-sleepers with her), but after our weekend staycay, I would recommend the experience to anyone. From zero airport time and one of the most beautiful riverbanks to flank a shopping district to food that rivals any big city (not to mention fantastic seasonal events and theatre productions you could include in your plans), a Saskatoon staycation is where it's at. Here's a peek at mine!
With only a little over a month left in my pregnancy, I surprisingly have had very few cravings. A few cravings have come and gone, including perogies, Eggo waffles, fresh raspberries and blueberries, Cheerios, and iced tea. The other night I got a hankering for some homemade guacamole, so I thought I'd share one of my most popular recipes.
Our Galentine's Day party was incredible thanks to the creative forces of Lux Events, the stunning atmosphere of Green Ark and the many talented vendors who collaborated with us. Knowing what Molly and her team at Lux Events had planned, I had to pack my camera to capture my favourite bits of the party. Every turn brought breathtaking details. From the lush floral table runner by Anthology Home Collection to the intricate details of the delicious Fab Frosting cookies, we were awe. The party was more beautiful than we had imagined due to our amazing local vendors. Take a scroll through my favourite party details.
I was lucky enough to photograph the lovely Renee Kolhman - Star Pheonix's very own food writer and she happens to have a very cool blog called "sweet sugar bean."
Funny enough we met years ago following each other on instagram and by chance ended up meeting randomly in person when she worked at a local Cafe in Saskatoon. We've stayed in touch ever since.
She has a cookbook on the horizon filled with her very favorites… and I am soooo excited to share a little question and answer period ...as well as a delicious cookie recipe!

The night started out with myself and bestie/blogmate Kelsi just wanting to have a fun girls night on some "netflix and chill" level. Next thing I know we were looking online for something delicious to cook up. Churros have always been a fav dessert (coming from a non-dessert type gal), but it's something I never thought of making myself. Turns out they aren't as complicated as one might think, and for our first time they ended up pretty delicious. What a great party snack! We looked at several recipes online and made some tweaks with what we had and went from there. (including a chocolate/nutella dip!) *cue drooling*
